GOAL

The goal of this presentation is to present an overview of the pathophysiology of idiopathic Parkinson's disease inform the student about current strategies in drug therapy management of patients suffering from that disorder.

OBJECTIVES

At the end of this presentation, the student should be able to:
  1. Describe two pathophysiologic changes in the brain which lead to the development of Parkinson's disease.
  2. List three signs or symptoms which are typical of Parkinson's disease.
  3. Explain the rationales for two combination therapies in the treatment of Parkinson's disease.
  4. Describe the role of selegiline for Parkinsonism prophylaxis.
