Overview
What is AMSA?
- The American Medical Student Association is a national student-run organization committed to fighting for universal healthcare, eliminating health disparities, advocating for diversity in medicine, and improving medical training
- Oldest and largest independent association of physicians-in-training
- Over 68,000 members nationally with chapters at every medical school
- Members have contributed over 10 million hours of community service
- Action Committees include: Community and Public Health, Global Health, Humanistic Medicine, LGBT Health, Minority Health, Women’s Health, and Medical Education
What do we do?
- Influence national and state healthcare policy through Action Committee work and lobbying events
- Connect students with professional and service opportunities, including residency fairs, fellowships, and international programs
- Network with medical students, physicians, and key leaders in healthcare
- Represent students to groups like the National Resident Matching Program (The Match) and the National Board of Medical Examiners
- Promote medical student well-being
- Develop skills to become physician-leaders through regional and national conferences
- Keep our peers informed about healthcare policy
- Represent the Keck School of Medicine at national events, such as the annual convention and leadership institutes
- Organize service events to promote health in the Los Angeles community
- Keck has won previous national awards in medical school admissions diversity (2001) and LGBT education and advocacy (2008, 2003)
