Global Health Action Committee

The Keck AMSA Global Health Action Committee advocates for health equality both domestically and abroad. We seek to raise awareness on global health issues such as the HIV/AIDS pandemic, unequal access to healthcare, world poverty, and public policy.

By hosting speakers and connecting students with leadership training and international opportunities, we strive to empower a generation of physicians that will not only understand the challenges facing global health equality, but will also have the tools to effect change at home and abroad. We lobby for international policy change on Capitol Hill, raise awareness about global issues in our local community, and gain first-hand medical and public health experience abroad.

A plethora of leadership training opportunities are available in Global Health, including the Global Health Scholars Program and leadership institutes. The AIDS Advocacy Network unifies health professionals in fighting global AIDS, while Global Pulse, AMSA's global health journal, provides students with an outlet to share their viewpoints and experiences and learn from those of their peers. AMSA also has an extensive database of international health opportunities.

Planned chapter events for this year include Global Health Symposiums, World AIDS Day Action, Medical Experiences Abroad series, and Broken Bread meal (Jan). We also collaborate with Keck's Office for Global Health and other student groups, such as Healing Hearts Across Borders and the International Medicine Student Interest Group (IMSIG), to further extend international opportunities to AMSA members.
