LGBT Health Action Committee

The Keck AMSA LGBT Health Action Committee seeks to foster a greater awareness and appreciation for health issues and discrepancies that lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender patients face today.

We are committed to LGBT patient advocacy and to the integration of LGBT health issues into the Keck School of Medicine curriculum, as well as to promoting greater student and faculty sensitivity to LGBT community needs.  The LGBT Health Action Committee is also here to support students who identify themselves as LGBT by creating a safe learning environment, advocating for their right to work in a discrimination-free environment, and providing resources that will enhance their medical education.

Our committee works closely with the national Gender & Sexuality Action Committee and Keck’s Medical Gay and Lesbian Organization (MedGLO) to put on meaningful educational programming.  Annual events include LGBT 101, National Coming Out & Ally Day, Transgender Talks series, “Ethics of Reparative Therapy” lecture series, HIV Counseling Training, and numerous social events.

This fall we will focus our efforts on voter registration and education drives to bring attention to LGBT health disparities.
