E
mmett is a male mini pinscher mix about 1 year old. He was
adopted from the Downey California pound on July 30, 2007.
In their own words: "THIS IS A VERY HIGH-KILL
SHELTER".
When my previous dog Tippy O'Toole
passed away in his sleep at nearly 17 years of age I really felt the greatest honor that
that I could pay him was by saving another dog in his name. Emmett has brought a great deal of joy
and peace of mind into my life. He gets along just fine with my dachshund mix
Tinker.
I believe most breeders
are decent people and pure bred dogs are great. However, as long as one dog waits death in a pound our
priorities most be focused on adoption and rescue. The rewards for both you and the dog will be just
wonderful.
When I first brought Emmett home from the pound he developed a really bad case of the kennel cough.
His condition kept getting worse. The vet advised me to take him back to the pound. But I couldn't
do that because I knew if I brought them such a sick dog he would have been put to sleep that day. So
we kept medicating him. He would just mope around and not eat. My neighbor, who is a great dog lover,
made him some boiled rice. And joy of joys he ate some. That next morning he ate much more and he was
on his road to recovery. After that he quickly regained his health and is doing fine today.
