As part of a comprehensive health sciences campus with numerous clinical affiliations, the Department of Nursing is well-equipped to address many of the challenges facing the nursing profession as a result of the changing healthcare environment. The department offers baccalaureate programs for those seeking to enter the profession, as well as for registered nurses who desire a bachelor's degree. The department also offers a master of science degree in nursing and study options for areas including nursing service administration, clinical nurse specialist in enterostomal therapy, family nurse practitioner and midwifery. All programs provide a blend of clinical experience, nursing theory, management training, and opportunities for involvement in faculty research. The department, which was established in 1981, received National League for Nursing accreditation for both degree programs in 1994. It has nearly 80 faculty and an approximate annual enrollment of 300.
